Purpose
- This policy outlines the guidelines and expectations for submitting and resubmitting assessments during your course.
Scope
- This policy applies to all learners enrolled in NSA courses. It provides guidelines for:
- Requesting an assessment.
- Submitting an assessment.
- Procedures and fees associated with resubmission and late submission.
Requesting an assessment
- Prior to requesting their assessment, learners are expected to complete all preparatory activities, including self-assessments, tutor webinars and consolidation activities.
- Learners are responsible for ensuring they are sufficiently prepared to request their assessment
- Learners must request their assessment within the learning portal. The assessment will be available to download once the learner confirms that they are starting their attempt, and understands the deadline.
Submitting an assessment
- The completed assessment must be uploaded to the learning portal in the specified file format before the deadline.
- If a completed assessment is not submitted before the deadline, the attempt will be marked as a ‘late submission’ except for cases that have already been agreed through the Special Considerations Policy. No discretionary periods of grace will be given.
Resubmitting an assessment
- If the first assessment attempt does not meet all of the assessment criteria, the learner will receive a ‘refer’ grade. Feedback will be provided by the assessor explaining where the assessment criteria has not been met, and why the required standard was not achieved.
- The learner will then be allowed to resubmit their amended assessment on payment of the relevant fees.
- If the second assessment attempt does not meet all of the assessment criteria, the learner will, once again, receive a ‘refer’ grade.
- Failure to meet the assessment criteria on a third attempt means the learner will be deemed to have failed the course.
Late submission
- If a learner does not submit their attempt before the deadline, this will be deemed a late submission – even where no attempt has been submitted. The learner will receive a ‘refer’ grade for the assessment.
- The learner will be allowed to request a new assessment version, which will feature a different scenario to the first assessment they received, on payment of the relevant fees.
- Where a learner submits late on two occasions without a valid Special Consideration that has been granted in advance of the original deadline, the learner will be deemed to have failed the course.
Failure of the course
- The course will be deemed as failed where:
- A learner has failed to meet the assessment criteria on their third attempt at any assessment.
- A learner has submitted their assessment late on two occasions without a valid Special Consideration.
- Where a course is failed, the learner will be suspended and ultimately unenrolled. No further study or assessment can take place.
- The learner will be prevented from re-enrolling in the course for a period of 6 months following an overall fail grade. NSA strongly encourages learners during this period to consider whether the course is suitable for them and what led to receiving a fail grade.
- At the discretion of National Safety Academy, the learner may re-enrol on the course after the 6 month period has passed if they wish to. This will be subject to payment of a Reinstatement Fee. Any progress previously made with learning materials and assessment will be treated as reset and the learner must progress through the course from scratch.
